Telescopes - the concept album from KK and his Steampunk Orchestra, is a geeky magic carpet ride across space and time a spellbinding saga a million years in the making......
Part film soundtrack part leftfield indie - like a dream it changes scene surreally from a dark winters fairytale to an Ennio Morricone inspired Wild West; from a blissful desert island to spacecraft on the edge of the galaxy. The album rekindles the lost art of the concept album. Like Pink Floyd s timeless classic Dark Side of the Moon it has a complete sense of vision, which reveals itself as the drama unfolds, from colossal film-like pieces such as Andromeda (think Danny Elfman meets John Williams) to Grandaddy / Bjork-esque indiepop such as 'Dust' and 'Codebreaker'.
Stargazing super-geek KK (Kevin Kerrigan), who has worked with the likes of Brian Eno, Bjork and James Newton Howard, has always harboured a passion for science and discovery as well as music, and here he fuses the two - exploring our origins in the world and the many mysteries of the universe with a unique sense of storytelling and childlike wonder.
Think Carl Sagan, Holst (of Planets fame) and Bowie jamming on Saturn after one too many Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters and you'll start to get the idea..
